10 Months Of David Joseph

We’ve had so much fun showing DJ a Wisconsin winter.  In addition to celebrating his first Christmas and opening his first present, he’s enjoyed sled rides and being out in the winter wonderland.  It’s so fun to see the things that he loves and just like he loves stroller walks in warmer weather, he’s also fond of sled rides in the winter.  It took him a while to get used to it through.  He kept a very straight face for most of his ride but now he never wants to get out. My desire to have my baby fully experience winter has gotten me enjoying it more myself.  We cleared off part of the pond at my in-laws farm and...

9 Months of David Joseph

“We probably won't be able to sleep in for a very long time” I told my husband as our alarm was going off at 4:30 AM on Monday after a weekend where we didn't get as much sleep as we wanted.  And then I smiled.  Because for as tiring, overwhelming, and confusing as it is being new parents, this is a season that I’m so grateful for.    Raising up this little human is such a whirlwind and I feel like I’m exhausted from all the trial and error (and googling).  But I wouldn’t trade this time for anything.  This is a season where we chase a little butt across the nursery floor and we hear the patter of knees...

My Tips For Clutter-Free Holiday Decorating

When the seasons change and we head into the holidays, I tend to turn more indoors, cozying up for my long winter’s nap and lots of merriment and memory-making. Yet for the longest time, that involved first hauling box upon box down from the attic. Then, with the mountain of decorations in front of me, I had to find the space for all of them! Pushing the frames on a shelf together to make a spot for a figurine that I didn’t even really like, moving furniture around to try to create more room, filling every nook and cranny with something festive until my home felt so full and busy I totally missed the joy it was all supposed to...

8 Months of David Joseph

Our little David Joseph is eight months!  And, let me tell you, he’s become a wild man. He’s on the go all the time. He’s so curious, adventurous, and fearless.  He’s crawling and pulling himself up on everything.  The other day he flung open the pantry door all on his own and helped himself to what was inside (don’t worry mom and dad were right there). Anything that belongs to mom or dad (aka anything he’s not allowed to have) is much more interesting than his own toys.  His favorite things to get into include cords, mom’s water bottle, shoe laces, and plastic bags.  Some serious baby proofing has been taking place.  And although it’s exhausting, I love to watch...

Why Lounge Sets Are The New Power Suits

Each of us had a vision of our future self, our answer to the question of where we would be in ten years. I envisioned myself as a strong career woman, high heels clicking as I confidently walked down the hallway. Future me would grab a latte for breakfast before spending her days in conference room chairs or behind mahogany desks, with a skyscraper view through the walls of windows. And of course, I had my power suit.  This vision of my adult self didn’t end up manifesting. I did, in fact, have the opportunity to work in a corporate setting in college - but reality was less glamorous than my high school dreams, and I found it to be the...

7 Months Of David Joseph

I have so many favorites for this age. Some of them include his big gummy smile (with two bottom teeth), when he makes facial expressions that make him look just like his dad, when he goes crazy bouncing in his exersaucer, when he talks to us, when he rolls around in our bed sheets after I change his diaper, watching him play by himself and discover new things, when he snuggles his mama.  We both love going on walks together in the crisp fall air. Being outside is still one of his absolute favorite things.  I love ending every day snuggling him into bed with his Lovey and his nook. Seven months is so fun I'm soaking in every moment....

The Lesson A Week Of Meditating Taught Me

I’m six months postpartum with my first babe and I finally stopped using my baby as my alarm clock.  For the past week, I’ve woken up in the wee hours of the morning to send my husband off to work, make our bed, meditate, and journal. All before my baby wakes up around 5:30 am.  It’s so hard to get my feet to hit the floor that early but, man, taking the time to set the posture of gratitude for my day has made a huge difference in how I’m showing up.  It’s allowed me to recognize a whole swarm of thoughts and fears that have been shrouding my mind, keeping me floundering instead of thriving.  And I thought...

6 months of David Joseph

Every month that goes by I can’t believe how big my baby boy is getting, but six months seems like a particularly important landmark.  Half a year.  That’s how long we’ve been a family of three.  That’s how long our sweet David Joseph has been a part of our lives, making our world so much crazier and brighter.  For three of the past four weeks, it was just me and DJ (and visits with extended family).  Joe was in Iowa restoring power to those who lost it in the derecho storm .  Being without the dada was really tough, but made me appreciate how whole I feel when my little family is together, how thankful I am for my...
