Fall is upon us already. Can you believe it?  This year, more of us than ever are working from home.  Settling into a productive work-from-home routine is not something that’s done easily.  But one thing that can really help you out is what you’re wearing in your weekdays at home.  As someone who’s been working from home for the past five years, I’ve become somewhat of an expert at creating a work-from-home wardrobe that works for me.  And I’m here to help you create the wfh wardrobe of your dreams.  It’s way easier than you think, I promise. Here’s my criteria for your WFH fall wardrobe.

Comfortable and easy to wear.  This might seem like a no brainer, but when it comes to working from home, comfort really is key.  I like to look for super soft knits that feel great against my skin.

High quality fabric.  To totally crush it working from home, you not only need to feel good, need to look good.  Studies show that when we dress to impress, we’re way more productive and creative.  Spending a little more on styles that are made with high quality (and sustainable) fabrics really pays off because they not only look and feel way better, they hold up much better too.

Layerable.  Layers are so important when you’re working from home.  Not only can layers keep you a comfortable temperature, they’re a great way to create a bunch of outfits with few pieces.  A way to make layering super easy is to keep all your pieces neutral or in colors that can work as neutrals (think olive green, rust, terra-cotta, ecru) Check out my post about how to wear colors as neutrals.

Easy Care.  I love a cozy sweater as much as the next gal.  And they are great for working from home.  The only thing about sweaters is that a lot of them are super hard to care for.  So the only way to make them practical is to hardly ever wash them (another reason dressing in layers is great).  A secret that keeps my wfh wardrobe super functional and easy is investing in high quality knit tops that act like sweaters.  These types of tops still feel great against my skin (way better than a lot of sweaters actually - sorry itchy wool that I want to love but irritates my skin), they look amazing, and I can throw them in the wash.  That’s what we call a win, win, win.

Goes with what you already have.  It’s essential that any addition to your work-from-home wardrobe goes with clothing that you already own.  Because if it doesn’t, you’ll likely keep skipping over it until it ends up pushed to the back of your closet, never to be seen again.  You know those pieces that you find when you clean your closet every four years and wonder why you never wore it?  Chances are, you didn’t have anything to wear with it so it was forgotten about.  And for your wfh uniform to work for you, you actually have to wear it.
